Official Update from the Government of St Kitts

Effective on August 15, 2022, The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has ended all COVID-19-related entry testing and vaccination requirements. The recent announcement indicates that the Federation is now open to both vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers. Additionally, travelers will no longer be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test to enter the Federation. However, all incoming passengers must complete and submit the Immigration and Customs ED form which includes a Custom and Border Form at: knatravelform.kn. This change comes under the leadership and guidance of Prime Minister Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, who also serves as Minister of Health.

It’s great to get back to St. Kitt’s huge variety of dive sites and a favorite itinerary of repeat clientele. It’s been my personal favorite route since the 1980’s and is the last link in finally returning to normal operations in all eight of our destinations.” President Clay McCardell

Itinerary Update

Currently, St. Kitts and St. Maarten do not have the same government requirements for vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers. This makes re-instituting Caribbean Explorer II’s original one-way itinerary between the countries difficult. The current plan is to incorporate St. Kitts into the weekly itinerary as weather permits while continuing to operate round-trip from St. Maarten through mid-November 2022, then return to one-way itineraries thereafter.  Follow the latest updates here or contact us for details.

A 14-mile reef off Providenciales holds vibrant reefs and dramatic drop-offs, and the liveaboard makes diving extraordinarily easy. On board Turks & Caicos Explorer II you can access the islands’ best sites, maximizing your bottom time without the hassle of long boat journeys. Just unpack your gear once and dive, dive, dive. Turks & Caicos Islands Itinerary Overview

When to go: Low annual rainfall and reliable ocean currents contribute to remarkable diving conditions year-round. However, one of the best times to visit TCI is in April and May when there are fewer crowds and pleasant weather with highs that hover in the 80s. It is the shoulder season between the cool and hot months, with more than nine hours of sunshine a day.

What to see: Caribbean reef sharks, eagle rays, turtles, jacks, octopus, grouper, lobster, huge gorgonian fans, barrel sponges, occasional dolphins, and hammerheads. Lucky divers also have the occasional sightings (and sounds) of humpback whales.

Where to do: Days aboard Turks & Caicos Explorer II generally involve breakfast from 7 am to 8 am (cold breakfasts are available for late risers), followed by two morning dives, lunch at 12:30 pm, two afternoon dives, dinner at 6:30 pm, and a night dive. Up to 27 dives during the week.

Where to stay: The Turks & Caicos Explorer II is a 124-foot aluminum vessel, a grand and spacious yacht. The liveaboard comfortably accommodates up to 20 passengers in 10 staterooms, all with private en-suite bathrooms. Up to 10 staff are onboard in crews’ quarters. The vessel features multiple decks for sun-bathing, and a large dive deck with nitrox and all dive amenities.

What’s included: 7 nights/8 days aboard the vessel; up to 5 dives daily (weather permitting); 3 meals daily, except Friday’s evening meal; between-dive snacks; towels, linens, etc.; use of tanks, weights and weight belts; all air fills; alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages. Scuba Hunt is a new, Cozumel-based underwater challenge game where you are actually diving with a mission. Can you and a teammate master a part scavenger hunt, part labyrinth and part escape room? Legend has it that Hurricane Wilma blew 90 huge concrete blocks into a natural maze where we have hidden a dozen clues. Teams will be tasked to find these clues without a map or compass (but a guide supervising nearby). Each clue will require teams to accomplish unusual twists on scuba skills and decipher puzzling codes. Teams will have 65 minutes in our shallow, 19-foot-deep (5.8 m) course to beat the clock and finish within 65 minutes to qualify to solve the final puzzle and win a small prize.  

Most dive experiences are about underwater sightseeing; Scuba Hunt is about sightdoing. Teamwork, concentration, communication, and coordination will be the keys to victory. It’s truly diving with a mission!

Don’t be fooled by the shallow depth, as navigating unpredictable currents is a part of the challenge of the game. So, this ain’t no DSD or freshly-minted, open-water certified graduate dive site. 

Whereas most traditional Cozumel dive shops operate remote and daylong 2-tank dives, Scuba Hunt is in town and only two minutes from our dive site, so our 1-tank experience can be completed in about two hours. It’s a niche/novelty dive for folks who want to squeeze in a late afternoon third dive after their host dive shop trip is finished. Or the combination of Scuba Hunt’s 1-tank and shallow dive is a safe and unique dive option for last-day-before-flying, instead of being stuck as a landlubber. Cruisers will appreciate our 1-tank dive as a no-rush, stress-free shore excursion.

Vaquita is packed with new technology

The new Paralenz Vaquita features a brand-new, patent-pending Auto-DCC (Depth-Controlled Color Correction), which enables the Vaquita to automatically detect green or blue water and apply a digital color filter for breathtaking true-to-nature recordings.

Equipped with a new, powerful chip — the Ambarella H2s65 — and image sensor — the Sony IMC577 — the Paralenz Vaquita records smoother and higher quality videos up to 4K in 60 fps.

On the backside of the Vaquita, a new True Color OLED display serves as a handy viewfinder with real-time dive overlay, showing the current time and temperature.

An underwater camera with a mission

The Vaquita is packed with sensors for comprehensive data collection to document the conditions of the ocean: conductivity, temperature, depth, and location (GPS).

The GPS sensor makes it possible for divers to share their dive footage as pins on the map, available in the Paralenz App. This new feature enables users to view dives from all over the world to seek inspiration or research conditions for future dive trips, and get a clear overview of where they have been and where they want to go. With every dive consumers share as a story through the Paralenz App, they are also sharing valuable ocean data from their dive with marine scientists and conservation organizations worldwide, and help them in their mission to save our ocean.
