WATER Winter Training at WSPC

Sadly, winter is coming, along with its long dark nights! Thursday nights are still operating as normal, skiffing at moonlight (don’t forget the light on the boat!) followed by a well deserved beer afterwards at the bar.

Though weekday outings in daylight might be off the menu, there’s a special at the weekend. It would be a shame to let all that summer work on the water go to waste. On Sunday mornings, come down, put your name in a hat and let’s see who you will skiff to the big weir with. Hopefully we will have enough interest to have two set off times (early birds set off by 8:30 and another set off time at 10:15) but for the time being, come down for 10am. It’s already happening, good turn up the past few Sundays but we thought to spread the word!

To top that, once a month we will have a time trial on the WSPC long distance course. Keep records of crews, water condition and times so people will have something to work towards improving. Followed by brunch!!! We will hopefully have a couple of set off times as hoping for a good turn up. Times to be announced at a later date when we’ll know the interest etc. First trial planned towards the end of October / beginning of November.

What about when the red boards are up?” I ear you say! Captain Chris has thought of that. We will then hold an ‘on-land’ trial, most commonly known as ‘Ergo Challenge’, over 500m or 1K. Again, time to be improved at each go.

Skiffers, Coxes, Passengers, Spectators, Helpers, Tea/Coffee Drinkers, all welcome… the more the merrier!!!

Register your interest in participating (either on or off the water) and don’t let the weather put you off.

See you Sunday on the water!
