Gulper’s Raft Race … Wraysbury Wanderers win Trophy

On 11 October Wraysbury Wanderers comprising Ian, John, Mick and Peter K (guesting from Hurricanes) tried their hand at raft racing and came 2nd out of 16 crews in the serious Gulpers’ Raft Race which took place on the River Lugg near Leominster.

The hosts Patricks Gulpers provided the raft and generously provided a lot of time setting it up. Their hospitality and kindness were wonderful.

Pete was volunteered into being the steerer and nailed the three turns in the race and Wraysbury paddled really well as a unit, running the raft very smoothly with a stroke rate much slower than the other crews.

Wraysbury Wanderers finished second overall, an excellent result beating many of the top rafting teams in the country. Our hosts won the race. We were rightly thrilled with our result.

Trophy

Another trophy that requires engraving and more space needed in the trophy cabinet!
